For Assist to work as intended, you need to give the browser access to your location. This is required in order to:
Share your position with colleagues
Add GPS data to photos you take directly in the app
Note: Your position is only shown on the map when you:
Have selected a vehicle
Are set to On duty
Are active in a service
The first time you open Assist
The first time you open Assist in Safari, you will be asked for access to your location.
Here you need to choose "Allow".
If you tap "Don't Allow" by mistake, you can grant access manually by following the steps below.
How to give Assist access to your location manually
If you have added Assist as an app on your Home screen, you still need to open it in Safari to change these settings.
Step by step:
Step 1: Open Assist in Safari
Open Assist in Safari (go.getassist.app), then tap the icon on the left of the address bar.
Step 2: Tap the three dots
Tap the three dots at the bottom right of the view.
Step 3: Go to "Location"
Scroll right down and tap "Location".
Step 4: Allow location access
Change the setting to Allow to permit location sharing.
Once this is done, Assist will be able to pick up your position and add GPS information to photos taken in the app.
Android
Step 1: Turn on location permission in Android settings
First, make sure Android allows Chrome to use your location.
1. Open Android settings (system level)
Open the Settings app on your phone.
2. Go to Apps (app management)
Tap Apps (or Apps & notifications), then find and select Chrome in the list of installed apps.
Check: You should now see Chrome's app info page with options for permissions, storage and notifications.
3. Check permissions (privacy)
Tap Permissions, then choose Location.
4. Set location access (required)
Choose Allow only while using the app or Allow all the time. Also make sure Use precise location is turned on if the option is available.
Check: Chrome is now allowed to get your GPS coordinates when asked.
Step 2: Allow location access for the Assist site in Google Chrome
Even if Android lets Chrome use your location, Chrome may have blocked the Assist site if you previously tapped "Block".
1. Open Chrome settings (browser settings)
Open Chrome, tap the three vertical dots (the menu) in the top right corner and choose Settings.
2. Go to Site settings (privacy and security)
Scroll down to the advanced section, tap Site settings, then choose Location.
3. Check the blocked and allowed lists (domain check)
Make sure the main Location switch at the top is turned on.
Look in the Blocked list. If
go.getassist.app(or your Assist address) is there, tap it and choose Allow or Clear & reset.
Check: The site should now appear in the Allowed list.
Step 3: Change permissions directly from the web page (quick method)
If you already have the Assist web app open in Chrome, you can update the permission straight away without going through the full settings:
1. Tap the site information icon (address bar)
While you're on the Assist page in Chrome, tap the tune/padlock icon to the left of the web address (URL) in the address bar.
2. Open Permissions (site controls)
Tap Permissions in the menu that appears.
3. Update the location setting (active site setting)
Make sure Location is set to allowed, or tap Reset permissions so Chrome asks you for location access again the next time the app requests it.
Check: Reload the page. When the browser pop-up asks whether Assist can use your location, tap Allow.
